July 18, 2012

Possibly not a short, but definitely late update this week  thanks to my being totally exhausted after preparing the promised ‘visual’ report of the second anniversary of our church, Parklands Baptist Church/ Mombasa Road.  Please take time to view this report of urban work in East Africa, entitled “Telling of His Glory, Speaking of His Might” at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151255718260130.559326.685050129&type=1&l=bac37813cd.
Another reason for today’s delay is electricity that has been coming and going!  The third reason is simply that when I get cold, my mind refuses to cooperate and it is in the low 60’s in our house today.  But I shouldn’t complain, it is even colder in southern Africa and we have had a few bursts of warming sunlight this week! Which is unlike last week when we were attending our annual cluster/mission meeting at Brackenhurst, which is a few thousand feet higher than Nairobi!

Last week, we only spotted the sun during a few very, very short bursts during our meeting and we didn’t spot it at all some days, but we did experience many damp and cool ‘in the clouds’ moments!  Otherwise, it was a good meeting as we heard how God is at work in East Africa.  The best part, as always, was times of fellowship with old friends and many new ones and spending time with our mission nieces and nephews.
I know that staying busy is one way to warm-up and Jack and I have done that this week.  Jack is organizing his books (a job he has wanted to do for years) and reading his new books on Baptist history, faith and practices.  Which means he will be soon be busy revising his teaching materials!  So join him in praying as he works at ‘refining’ what he shares with Baptist churches, associations and our seminary students.
I’ve been busy preparing Prayer Nudges and working on the upcoming Ramadan focus as well as preparing for this year’s Lottie Moon focus.  I’m also busy with other ideas/ improvements that I want to include in my work of sharing what God is doing in East Africa and how you can join in His work through prayers, finances and personnel.   For a view of this last week’s Prayer Nudges, go to 2012 Prayer Nudges from East Africa.* Pray for me as I update blogs and plan new focuses in addition to my usual work.
So, as promised, I will quit before this becomes the usual epistle. Thank you for your assurance of prayers.  If you want an assurance that we do value your prayers, check out today’s and yesterday’s Nudges!  BERT
