For those of you who have been praying for Nairobi this afternoon, sorry for the delay in writing, but as one co-worker just shared in her prayer letter, “This is a very tense afternoon in Nairobi.” For us, it has been a very tense and stress filled afternoon in our neighbourhood, beginning at 12:30 with an hour of the explosions of guns and grenades! The large modern mall that you can see from our house (I took a photo, but decided some of you would prefer not to see how close) was attacked by armed gunmen and by sounds we are still hearing sporadically, the police and army have not yet fully entered the mall. We are OK and safe, but many are suffering.
Thankfully, friends who were in the mall were able to escape by mid to late afternoon. It was a true praise and joy to see the Mom and her kids walking towards our house mid-afternoon. There are still conflicting reports, but many have been killed and dozens injured. Would you thank God with us for our friends who are now at home in another part of the city and pray for them as they deal with all they experienced today. They are very thankful for all of you who learned of this via Facebook and Twitter and were praying.
Pray also for all those who have been and are being affected by this senseless event and that the problem will be soon resolved and no one else will be injured. BERT
